laptop memory

i was just wondering, is there a noticeable difference between pc2 5300 and pc2 4200? my laptop is made for 5300 but a friend has 2GB of 4200. i recently installed vista and i my 1GB of ram is totally insufficient. i was thinking about buying/trading for it and just wanted to know if it would be worth it. thanks

Yes you would almost certinly notice a difference dropping the memory speed even with adding extra, post the laptop model manf etc and i'll give you some suggestions.
