I was debating between purchasing an HP laptop and a Sony laptop. I noticed the HP has an LED screen while the Sony seems to be a regular lcd screen. Is there an advantage to buying the HP with it's LED screen?
 
Uses a little less power, and it's "instant on".

As far as quality goes, I don't find my LED laptop screen to be visually better than a CCFL.
 
Main claim to fame for a LED backlight vs a CFL (flourescent) backlight is less power consumption so longer battery life. Both are LCD displays.

The LED will be brighter
 
Alright, thanks guys that leans me towards the sony since they seem to be more reliable.
 
I suggest that you look at ASUS laptops as well, because they are a good value for the money. They use LED TN displays, but they are pretty good at that.

I found a few Asus on amazon that are okay, but I don't really like their colors....lol i kno it's superficial. Anyway, do you know of any other resellers for asus, I'd like to find one with a white finish if possible.

Supposedly LED displays don't "fade out" to the same degree after many thousands of hours of usage too. Other than that, not requiring a warm up time, and eating less battery, there's not much in it. I wish they'd make some more laptops with IPS though, since it'd make a much bigger difference, and apparently it could maybe be done with decent battery life if the screen on the IPad is anything to go by.
 
Very happy with my LED back-lit screen on my HP 2510P. I'm surprised that the Sony doesn't have one. If battery life is important for you get a LED back-light screen. Together with an SSD you can significantly extend your usage on the road.
 
The monitor part of the laptop is a pretty big comsumer of watt. And LED has pretty significant power savngs, I dont see why you would settle for a laptop without LED at this point.
