Is it possible to take a laptop LCD screen and make it work on a desktop? My laptop was recently ruined but the LCD screen is still good and I would like to continue using it

Yes.
You need to get an LCD controller that supports your LCD.
Anything up to 1280p ish res is cheapest, the higher res ones up to 1080p are going to cost $400 or more.
You then have the hassle of dealing with an LCD controller company and they dont like to help you get specs so they can match the controller to your panel!
You may get lucky and find a controller that already is matched to your particular panel.

Here are 3 manufacturers, there are more.

They can also supply the backlighting controller but you need to build your own housing for the whole shibang.
