I got my hands on a used Sony Vaio SVF15215CDW Fit 15E and for some reason, the A key on the laptop keyboard is a 3. The 3 key is still a 3. An external USB keyboard works perfectly fine with the A being an A.

It's the same whether I'm using Windows 7 or Windows 10 so it doesn't appear to be a software issue. Using Sharpkeys doesn't help. Both keys are wired to be the same key.

What else can I do short of getting a new keyboard?

Maybe try to blow the keyboard out with a good compressor cranked up. Maybe partially depress the keys to get more blast up in the nooks and crannies.

Else hunt down a tear down video and take it apart to see what is exactly wrong. Sounds like debris is the issue maybe.

Thanks for the suggestion. I took out the A key along with the surround keys and blew them with compressed air. I didn't work.

I was planning on ordering a new keyboard anyways since it was missing 5 keys (it was cheaper to buy whole than individual keys) and was going to just transfer the keys. I guess I'll have to do a full tear down to swap the entire keyboard. I've taken it apart and saw the work needed to get the keyboard out. Was hoping to avoid excess work.
