Hey, I thought you guys might be able to help me out here. I bought a used laptop from a friend but it didn't come with a hard drive, nor a caddy to house a hard drive. I'm having a lot of trouble finding a caddy for a drive since the laptop model is discontinued and the manafacturer is out of business (the laptop is a Metrobook II)....

Anyway, I was wondering if the connector in here is a standard one that I might be able to just buy some kind of common adaptor for.

Can anyone tell me if that's the case? Here's a photo of it:

As you can see (if you were to take the time to count the pins, as I did), there are 4 pins- or whatever you want to call them- in the socket/connector... standard IDE I guess.

Anyway, any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! :)

Edit: Just wanted to add that the connector is maybe 1.5 inches wide. Lemme look to make sure... yeah I'd say it's probably even more like 1.25 inches or so.

If I'm thinking correctly, that thin piece with the metal tabs juts OUT right? (hard to tell the depth). If so then yes that is standard. I know the Gateway Profiles use that adapter to Laptop Hard Drive. I'll see if I can find that piece for ya and snap a picture.

yup that little inner rectable with the metal connectors on it sticks out

here's another image with more natural lighting which makes it a bit easier to tell:
