Aurora mALX<--alienware
envyw201<----voodoo

woundering whats so great about the machines? i need somthing while im on the road in a big rig to game on. i want duel video cards 2gig of ram..... alienware gives me this for a lil over 5k and voodoo almost 8k.i dont think the xps offer this. so give me your imput.
i want it to be portable so when i come home and i decide to go over a buddys house and lan i can bring it.when i go home i want a 19" lcd monitor with keyboard and mouse hook ups to use as a desktop.

please give any advice everything helps. i hate alienwares case on the aurora its ugly in my opinion.

I own a Voodoo and have had great service, etc. with them.
The 20" line is HUGE just so you know; also they just took down there 17" beast the u709.
The reason for this is because of the end of 939, also with a new barebone case they will probably be using that was just released. I believe, that they said it will be a few weeks until the items replacement is up on the website. Though your best bet would be to call & talk to them, they are very friendly and helpful people.

Alienware: Note they are owned by Dell now.
Currently in my vision Alienware has gone down hill over the past 3-5 years. Mainly because they have gotten so big they are just another big company, and not the little boutique computer company they started out as. They does not tear down though that they do build some good quality machines, but service BEFORE and after, and all around might be missing.

Dell: It will come with bloat.
Your basic computer with a somewhat competitive edge. I have known a few people who own (older versions) of the laptop line of the XPS and have enjoyed them greatly. Yet again they are just at the bottom of the top in my opinion of what you can get with a full blown gaming right.

~Overall, there are other things to consider. With Voodoo they paint your laptop. It is very lovely, but do you need a painted laptop? With you carrying this around, it is going to be very heavy.

i like the voodoo the best but is it worth the 7k for it? 16-20lbs is light when i take somthing some where i carry a 50lbs full tower and a 20lbs crt monitor =( 16lbs is a breeze. i want to know also duel video cards is it worth it? im on a geforce 5700 i dont want to even try to run s.t.a.l.k.e.r or some of the new games oblivion dident run to well on my computer. i want it to keep up for some time if im going to dump money into it. voodoo is also using amd.

Well, the way to find if something is worth a price. First determine what you see fit in what you want.

CPU: Dual Core
GPU: 79xx times two
HD space: X amount
RAM: 2gbs
LCD: 17+
etc.

I purchased the 15.4" laptop from them & paid over 3k for it.
I could have gone to two other places tops & had gotten what I paid for with Voodoo. Now it would have been a bit cheaper, but I am completely happy with what I got at the time of my purchase.

~Also something to note. There build time currently is 30+ days depending on order amount at the time. I ordered around October, so the invoice was going up so it took them awhile.

On the dual graphics in a laptop I have never used before. If it is anything like the SLi in a desktop, but a bit underclocked then that is what it will be. Yet I can not fully comment on it. Sorry.
Edit: Also, just looked and yes they currently are using AMD in the 20" notebook. I do not know though if it is a higher clocked than the Intel D2C mobile systems or not. That you would have to call & talk to them about.

maybe you should look into sager/clevo

the alienware and voodoo is the clevo 590ke/sager 5960

also since you listed a 17inch model (dell)

you should look at the clevo m570u/sager 5760

id go dell, you can get a 512mb card and you can get up to 4 years full coverage at a great price. incase you slam on the breaks and bust the lcd

Bare in mind that 20" laptops are HUGE and HEAVY. You do NOT want to carry that with you to and from airports/conventions because even with the best back pack the weight still cuts into your shoulder(s). It also depends on what games you wanted to play with it. There are some 17" solutions out there for you to choose from which will out performs your currently selections.
