The laptop in my sig was running a little slow in hd reading/writing so I took a look at the primary ide channel settings and apparently it is running in PIO mode yet the transfer mode is set to "DMA if Available". I have the latest via hyperion drivers.

Any ideas on how to get this back to dma mode?

was it ever in dma before?

chances are that hd is pio only, laptops hd's tend to be cheap and slow. unless it's set to pio only in the bios

again, check your bios.

afaik they don't make 16mb cache hd's, and i have yet to see a laptop with an hd that has even an 8mb cache.
