laptop harddrive portable

hey
i have a old 1gb laptop harddrive and it still works. a friend of mine, he took a 40gb laptop harddrive and put it in a case of firewire and usb conectors and it works like a those big external hard drives. its very nice, is there a chance i can do the same, if so where can i get the parts needed?:)
 
You should not have any problems with getting an encloser for you laptop HD.
 
i know they make portable enclosures for desktop harddrives so you can plug them into laptops, they probably make them for laptop harddrives also.
