im looking into getting a laptop and one im looking at has a 852GME Intel chipset with 32 megs of ram. The only games I play require like 16megs of video memory and for it to be compatble with directx. Would a vid chipset like that work? is it compatible with directx? i checked the site and it says its compatible with direct3d...what Desktop card could this be compared to?

What games?

It's an I740 on crack. IOTW, it's pretty poor. But what are you playing?

i play:

Phantasy Star Online for PC, minimum requirement sis 16megs

jedi outcast 16 MB OpenGL compatible PCI or AGP 3D Hardware Accelerator required.

star trek bridge commander 100% DirectX® compatible 16MB video card and drivers

Yes but you realize that those #'s are minimum... your gonna be turning a lot of stuff off, especially on Jedi Outcast...

PSO will be ok.

JK3 will be VERY slow.

Bridge commander will be slow, but playable with a bit of work.

As lopoetve said, Outcast will be the one to run poorly.
Geforce 2 MX will run it, integrated is just downright nasty.

I can't speak for recent drivers, but Intel's integrated video has had problems with openGL games in the past. That may have been sorted out, the most recent Intel integrated I've dealt with was the i810.

Heh, I need to fire up Outcast on it to see what happens... lol
