This is for a non techy female friend in another state. Gonna be used for intensive photo editing with photoshop and lightroom, word processing, and music listening. Budget is around 750-800.

Only must is a 15" or bigger screen(if possible) & up to 16gb upgradable ram.

Ram capacity isn't really important as i can have her purchase ram and show her how to install it. Would be cheaper this way, right?

Someone on another forum told me photo editing should be done on an IPS panel. True or false?

Nice!
Because you ask the impossible.

There's nothing in your price range I would recommend for professional photo editing. In fact I wouldn't recommend a laptop display at all. If quality is important, get a proper external monitor and hook it up to the laptop...

what kind of editing is done?

How large are the files?

for sure your #1 factor should be display you want proper color reproduction which no "standard" TN panel will do, your looking at $400+ for a "okay" monitor for proper color reproduction..

So just how professional is this?
