Laptop for Business

I know my dad really wants a laptop for his business, so I'm planning to get on for his birthday (April).

I want something that's durable since he's sort of a contractor-like job.

He does designs for business signs, awanings, etc. on the computer and wants a laptop so he can pull up a simple design/plan to show his customers when he visits their storefronts and observers the place.

Not sure if that really made sense, but to summarized, it's mostly going to be used for designs (programs like coreldraw, casmate, flexisign, adn similar design softwares). It doesn't have to be top of the line, but I want it to be at least of date, and durable.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
 
The toughbooks are amazing for durability, but if you want something reasonable, I would suggest the DELL Vostro Line, I am very impressed by the 1500 build quality, it feels very sturdy and well built. They have really good prices going on them too, one thing they are not, is thin or light.
 
Sounds like a tablet is in order. It might facilitate showing designs to his clients and impress them with his Technology (people outside the techie world don't know that tablets exist).

I would recommend a Lenovo Thinkpad X61 Tablet. Very work-oriented, very durable, excellent customer service for businesspeople. You're going to pay extra for all that, but if it's for work it might be worth it.

They both price at around the same price. The thinkpad is defiantly more durable and the keyboard is known to be hella lot better then other laptop keyboards. Whichever one appeals more to you...
 
There's also the dell Latitude ATG series, if he needs something REALLY ruggedized.
 
I second Dells ATG D630. If he will use it on the job, like at a construction site, he is gonna need the extra protection.
 
To clear up some confusion, the laptop will not be used in a construction environment. It will be mostly used when he meets up with potential customers while checking out the storefronts and other places that the new sign/awnings will be put up.
