Laptop Folding Q?

I know that there's the option to have the computer stop folding when on battery power - how reliable is that? Just picked up a new Turion 64 1.8 GHz lappy and want to fold on it, but don't want to drain the battery while on the road.

I figure it'd be pretty reliable, just wanted to make sure it would stop when it should.

 
a thread around here pointed out that GROMAC cores I think freak out (read die and start over) is it's stopped for >3 hours I think.

On batt. it stops and checks before starting up here. no problems in my book
 
I've got the same cpu, it stops within seconds for me. No troubles. I always use hibernate instead of standby as well, it saves more juice anyway, and apparently fully stops everything instead of making the console wonder whats gone wrong.

Laptop sure gets darn hot after 24hrs or so of [H]ard folding, but.. it folds, no harm done.

 
On another laptop related note, make sure your laptop is in a cool place or is getting enough air to keep it cool while it's folding. Laptops don't circulate as much air as desktops and tend to radiate the heat throughout the whole case, so you need to be more careful with them. I've had a couple of laptops develop issues that may be related to folding 10-11 hours a day for the last 3-4 years - but those laptops always seemed to run hot and others like them are still chugging along. Practice safe folding!

word. make sure you elevate you laptop some -- manufacturers like to do stupid things like putting fans on the undersides of laptops -- i keep mine propped up w/ a cd jewel case...
 
Those things are okay, although most of them don't allow for the best airflow. I've got one with 2x60mm's and it makes a ton of noise and the air hardly blows.

You might be better served with just a small prop like a book or something, and maybe a cheapy desk fan. Ghetto yes, but it's more efficient.

 
Well for something simple, out of the box they aren't too bad.

If you have money and time you can always DIY with some silent
fans etc, and make a kick ass one :)
 
my inspiron 8100 with p3 1g has been folding for just about 5 months 24/7 and it's just fine and yea the battery thing is very good it shuts it down quick
