I posted in the mobile computing forum but got no response. Just a quick question. The DVD-ROM in my wife's Acer Travelmate 290 just stopped reading discs. It spins, but thats it. Can I put in any DVD drive designed for notebooks? Will it work? We are taking leave in two days and have a long drive ahead of us. I don't have time to order one so will have to find one locally. Thanks guys/gals!

Psst, why don't you try it? :D

It should work, providing the OS detects them. If you have a CD with drivers on it, it's best to use that. But make sure you get rid of the previous driver that your laptop used for the dead drive.
