I bought laptop from AOpen (model 1559) with GeForce 6600 Go MXM.
I also bought Samsung CD/DVD drive, SATA Hdd from Toshiba, Kingston SDRAM DDR II Memory 1x512MB, and Pentium 4 M 1.7GHz (478pin and motherboard has 479pin, but the description said that it should work) When I turn it on the display is on, but the picture looks like sand and nothing else appear (like BIOS etc.)
I don't know where is the problem, pls help me as soon as possible even when you are not sure about the solution

question:
did you put everything in the computer yet?

If you hook up an external monitor via the VGA port on your laptop (should have one) and toggle the video to it (usually by a combination of the Fn and some other key...), does the video show grainy there? If it looks fine on the external monitor, probably just an LCD issue. If it looks grainy on the external monitor too, you've got deeper problems such as a possible bad video controller or other piece of hardware causing the video to go haywire.

Um... I havent messed with intel for a while so I cant comment from experience... but:

Is the socket 479 made for a complete different line of processors when comapred with 478... if its different then why even try it? Could you have purchased a 479 pin cpu? Example: 939 and 940. I would google it but I need sleep.

That aopen takes a pentium m or celeron m chip. A pentium 4 m will not work with it.

Thx a lot for replies. This is the best page ever. I had no reply in any other page, even the manufactor.

I looked for really cheap notebook so I bought it from some unknow page w/ realy poor description and there was that I can use pentium 4 m. :(

I got two more questions:

I found new specification of that notebook, but there is that I can use Celeron M up to 1.73/533 (frequency: 740), but I cannot find Celeron m 740, it is only up to 380.
I think I can only use Celeron up to 1.73, right?

And how much better is Pentium M processor than Celeron M?

3 series is a celeron, 7 seriers is the pentium m. Pretty much you loose the speed step if you get a celeron. So if you want battery life get a pentium m.

But Celeron is much more cheaper. Is Celeron also much more worse? Do you know any numbers? Performance and battery life?

Thx a lot for helpin' me

Look in the threads for that L25 toshiba notebook from black friday and see how much those people added by going to a pentium m. Also if you search in the FS in the forms you see people selling pentium m's every once in a while for good prices.

Pentium M are here around $90 and I saw Celeron M 1.6 about $30. I think I'll buy Celeron. If I knew this page before I would never buy that laptop anywhere else :(

Ok, now I put PM 1.7Ghz in that laptop. But now it won't even turn on. When I pull out the processor it won't turn on again. Not even the audio panel (just power for CD rom) I don't know what the hell is wrong with it :(

You may have killed the notebook useing the p4 or you may have killed it with either a bad new cpu or zapped it with static or something installing it.

Both is not good
But when I pulled out P4 (few days ago) it still worked.
If the new CPU was bad do U think they should... I dont know... do something?
So know the motherboard is not working or what?

I am probably lucky son of a gun - I pulled out everything a put it back and now it does turn on :p
But right now the display is still black (It is probably working because when I had P4 it showed something - viz top of this page)
Any ideas?

Btw: does anyone know about a shop where someone can help me in Las Vegas? As cheap as possible...
