Laptop Cooling Question

I have an E1705 notebook and plan on getting the Cooler Master Notepal U3 notebook cooler which comes with 3 fans.

My question is, how should I place the fans on the grid? The E1705 has air intake grills on the top of the laptop, next to the keyboard, on the sides and on the bottom. With such a design, if the bottom vents are blocked, by a pillow for example, the fans can still draw cool air from the other vents. The exhausts are on the back.

From what I've read, the Cooler Master Notepal U3's fans actually blow air INTO the laptop, not out of the laptop. What would be the optimal fan configuration?

I could also get a fourth fan, the Thermaltake Mobile Fan II External USB Cooling Fan.

I bought an overheating XPS M1710 for my ex-girlfriend to use for college and play portal on.
With the T2500 + 7900 GTX it would get quite hot.

To fix the overheating, I tore down the laptop and found that the heatsink fins were completely clogged with dust (fixed that). Applied MX-4 and new thermal pads for the GPU memory.

Cleaned out the fans and actually replaced one with a failed bearing. Then I set up custom fan profiles in i8kifangui (dell fan control utility, will work with your laptop). This helped alot because anytime the GPU gets over 60*C it would ramp up to full, keeping temps around 70*c on the GPU core.

It was still grilling her lap while gaming so I bought her a lap cooling pad http://compare.ebay.com/like/290768282664?var=lv&ltyp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar

Not as nice as the U3, but more lap friendly. In any case, it still ran a bit warm so I ended up removing the wifi/pci access door and the memory door for more airflow. She never takes it off the lapdesk anyway, so I ended up using a velcro strap to mount the two together (works pretty well).

I would stick one fan blowing over the ram, and the other two more towards the middle blowing over where the CPU and GPU are actually mounted (some airflow will spill over to the fans, which will be drawing air through the mesh on the cooling pad anyway).

Unfortunately we broke up this summer and I told her to keep the laptop.
Only paid $90 for the computer, threw in 4gb of ram and a SSD. For <$250 it was an amazing budget laptop, PLUS 1920x1200 is fucking awesome.
