my friend is looking into buying a laptop in awhile. he wants to spend about $3000 for one. wich would be the best one around that price range. a good video card is a must also

3k is so far above what I see most people (and myself) looking into. Get the 6807 and then have 1400 left over to buy gadgets and other fun stuff for it. (don't forget the $500 service fee:D )

Or you could get a hi-res 17" widescreen with a 3.2GHz EE and Radeon M11 9700 256mb graphics and 2GB of RAM. *drool*

Or you can go to www.ibuypower.com and get a laptop with better specs -- probably weighs more -- but about a grand cheaper and get a step higher vid card.

Ok, he was searching the dell site and came up with this:

Inspiron XPS
Pentium®4 w/HT Technology 3.4GHz,15.4 WUXGA
Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition
1GB Dual Channel DDR SDRAM at 400MHz
128MB DDR ATI's MOBILITY™ RADEON™ 9700 AGP 8X Graphics
Creative Audigy 2NX
FREE 4x CD/DVD burner (DVD+RW/+R) Upgrade!
60GB Hard Drive at 7200RPM
96 WHr 12-cell Primary Battery with Subwoofer
1 Year Limited Warranty plus 1 Year Mail-In Service
Dell® Wireless 1450 Internal Wireless (802.11a/b/g, 54Mbps)

This came out to be $3,087. What do you think?

Sagar has some real good laptops, with 256meg Radeon 9700, also with 17"LCD, 1 Gig of PC3200, with raid HD. Might want to look at those.

It's a PENTIUM M. a PM 1.7 has about the equivalent computing power of about a 2.6-2.8ghz P4 IIRC. It also is a centrino laptop - meaning low weight and awesome battery life. If I had that much money to spend on a lappy there's no question I'd get a T41.
