I have a nice G4 Powerbook (see sig) and would love to use it with my logitech z-640s, unfortunatly my laptop only has one standard headphone jack which doesn't quite cut it for these speakers. What is the best way to get my powerbook to utilize all these speakers for under $80. I have seen those USB soundcards but they seem to be a little out of my price range, would one of those be the best solutions?

this won't give you true surround sound, but you could try using a y-splitter from radio shack. that way all the speakers will be working, just without any kind of front/rear positioning
 
Yea, I think you'll be looking at at least that much money for an external sound card solution.

I have an Audigy 2NX for my laptop and it was roughly $200 Canadian when I bought it. It can do 7.1 surround and is probably one of the better solutions for a laptop. I'm pretty happy with mine. It sounds way better than the laptop sound.
 
Ewww............... the thought of a Creative product connected to an Apple craptop is the stuff of nightmares.

How about you "upgrade" to some nice 2.1 speakers instead? :D

well i was actually thinking about getting some nicer 2.1s the 560s really blow, or maybe all my mp3s sound like crap (192kbs), i suppose both are true?
 
Yup. but more so the speakers then the MP3s.
They are pretty nice speakers for gaming but not for music.

in reference to the speakers, for sure, but this laptop is better than anything else i've seen. I almost have the balls to 'switch' now that i have a dual boot of linux on it too.
 
oh common X apple makes nice laptops. creative on the other hand....
 
i think i'll sell these speakers to some poor soul on campus, and get some klipsch 2.1s, maybe some altec's... i think i'll stay away from the logitech's.
 
Eff i'm so angerous......... i was just about to get the z2200s from amazon for $50, well today the price went back up to 159.....
