Looking for a new laptop in the $700-800 range. I don't plan on playing games on it, maybe a few low end ones but it isn't a priority. It will be a general use laptop, internet things, maybe minimal Photoshop, watching movies, and other applications that are not very demanding.
What I am going to prioritize is build quality, reliability, battery life, ease of basic upgrades / repair. If need be I would like to upgrade the SSD down the road or replace the battery if needed.
I would prefer if it came with an SSD out of the box. I would really prefer a 500GB drive but I would settle if it came with a smaller SSD + HDD. I don't care if it is a lower SSD or SATA, but I assume even a low end SSD will blow a 5400 RPM HDD out of the water.
I am not up to date with the current mobile CPUs. I would like something decent, although I realize at this price range I can't expect the greatest CPU. But which models are the mid range ones from Intel? Are AMD's current offerings even worth looking at? Are the Ryzen based mobile CPUs available in any decent laptop in this price range and if so are there any good comparisons with Intel's offerings?
