I'm looking to buy myself a new laptop using the intel core 2 duo. price range is around $1700. moderate gaming. moderate battery life. around 15 in. 2gb ram.....etc.
Could someone reccommend something or am I better off customizing something from dell?

I don't think Dell is selling any notebooks that have an 8600GT with DDR3. All of theirs will have DDR2 and that is going to make a huge difference in performance. You can get a Dell 1520 for about $1,500 with similar specs but in my opinion it will not be as attractive, won't have the same build quality and their 8600gt is not as good as the one that ASUS is using.
