How do you use laptop HDDs/opticals on a desktop system? Is thre any difference besides the size?
 
the hard drives are 40 pin ide + 4 pins for power. you'll have to get an adapter, but they're cheap.

i dunno about optical drives, i've never dealt with one of 'em.
 
and where would I get an adaptor? a normal IDE drive is 40 pins + 4 for adaptor...

just arrangement of pins i would suppose.
