Lapping my Conroe

I have two separate conroe builds, and I'm assembling my e6300 first mostly for the experience so that I can do a better job with my e6600. While lapping my cpu the plastic protective cap broke and slid, and I got dusty water on the sides top of the processor over the recessed golden caps.

What is my best course of action to remove this stuff?

I don't think water will remove the dust/water as it's pretty good at staining what it touches. Would alcohol, Q-tip , and ample amount of time to dry work?

I would douse it with 99% Isopropyl alcohol and then wipe the "stains" with a q-tip, then douse it again and let it dry overnight.

Then I would make sure I know how to lap something properly before I did it again. Not trying to be a dick, but there are alot of places to find out how to do it right.

Douse the entire processor???

That seems like overkill. How easy are these things to destroy as far as the connecting caps on the top? Also, I was doing it right as far as the guides are concerned. The plastic protective cap on the top was doing a great job untill it broke and slid off the top of the CPU.

99% Iso alchohol evaporates like mad so it will rinse all the debris away then it will evap. No harm done.

Better to have all the debris gone.

Man you are on some missions. Anyways let us know how the lapping went and was it worth it?

You are not going to believe this but I just Lapped my Core 2 duo , but I did a mild lap and was very happy with the finished product. Even bought some coolaborotory liquid pro , just the mobo left now and i am done.
