lapping and warrenty

Most people that are that picky about 2-3 degrees C have alltogether thrown out the warranties on most of their hardware anyways.

Anyone who overclocks their hardware as far as they can (and that means a lot of us here in the Hardforum) has learned to live with the fact that it could be expensive to F*ck up.

If you are worried about this, don't lap a $1000 CPU for 2-3 degrees and maybe 50 MHz.

for the HS they wouldn't be able to tell if you OCed your processor (though lapping is a good indicator). I'm not sure how they tell with the processor, but I believe they have some tell tale signs that they generally can pick out to figure it out

I dread the day where small non-volatile Ram chips are implanted into my hardware, recording the maximum temp and clocks they reach

And um, if you dont destroy it thermally (ie, lots and lots of voltage, or push it too far) I dont think they can tell ;).
