lapping a tuniq?

I head that If you lap a tuniq tower 120 plate then you get better thermal transfer. Can you lap the tuniq without doing the cpu? what kind of decrease will i see? 1-2 degrees?

also I need to know how to get the backplate off of a motherboard, my tuniq tower backplate is on there pretty good

And yea, I had the same problem with my tuniq when I tried to take it off my motherboard the first time. Basically the sticky foam stuff kinda melts onto the back of the board. I took a hair dryer, and headed it up and it still took quite some force, but it eventually pryed off. Some of it stayed on the board, and I had to peel it off separately.

Afterwards, I took a piece of paper, and cut out a square. I put this on the sticky pad stuff, and then put the back plate on. Ive taken it off twice after that, and it just came right off no force needed.
 
I lapped my Tuniq 120. I don't know about Temp Differences because I lapped mine before I even used it. Back when it first came out, it was common knowledge that it needed lapping. You could see/feel the striations and lapping smooths it out. There are a couple of guides on this board, but you'll probably have to go back to July/August of 2007 (when I did mine).

You CAN lap the CPU, but you void the warranty. I did not do mine.

I lost the lottery on my VID (1.3125), but I am still able to get 3.6 out of Q6600. Temps are an issue due to the voltage to get there. Day to day, I'm at 3.42 and temps are stable.

I've never taken mine off so I'm not so sure about the backplate. The only reason you would need to worry about it is if you're going to a different HSF, otherwise, just leave it.


 
Seriously I've tested my Tuniq on numerous brands I've yet to encounter this 'brittle' crack prone board you speak of. When I say yank I don't mean rip it off like some mad lunatic. Start with a corner and wiggle and go to another corner and keep wiggling back and forth. Eventually it will get loose enough to yank it off.
