Lapped my heatsink

Well first off this is my first post, I have been a lurker for quite sometime but I decided to join when I built my new computer, see signature for specs.

Anyway I lapped my heatsink and I am quite impressed with the results. I am using a ThermalTake Venus 12 with Arctic Silver 5 on an AMD Athlon 64 3500+ and my temps were:

Idle: ~34C
Light Load: ~39C
Heavy Load: ~51C

After the lapping:

Idle: ~32C
Light Load: ~37C
Heavy Load: ~47C

Not to bad for $16 and about an hour of work.
 
nice! lapping is always fun.. now you just gotta do the heatspreader too :p




(disclaimer: i would actually advise against this, but it's sure fun)
 
heat spreader does improve preformance consiterably, i lapped my 5950s heat spreader and just lapping that and using the stock cooler dropped temps by i think 4 degs
 
Yea, it's pretty amazing that such an obvious and cheap "mod" can make such a difference.
