Lanbox Lite Case and Rusting

I have a lanbox lite case for less than a year and its already starting to rust from the inside out. The thumbscrews cannot be used anymore since they're rusted over. Its really humid and salty here since I live in Cape Canaveral, Florida (right next to the coast).

I was thinking I'd take the whole case sand it down, put a coat of primer on it and repaint it gloss black. that should stop the rust and protect it from the humidity in Florida weather right? Is there another method I should be using to protect my case from these harsh conditions?
 
Use a rustproofing primer, not just a regular primer.

You could take a chunk of zinc and attach it to the inside of the case in an inconspicuous place - if there is a good electrical connection between the case and the zinc, it will act as a sacrificial watchamacallit.

Man if you can live down there with out A/C you are a better man than me. Is the thing outside?
 
Nope its not outside and man the weather isn't that hot down here right now. Its only spring at ~85degrees wait till you get to Summer when its avg ~98F. Right now in FL this is pretty warm weather with only a needed celling fan.

ONLY 85 degrees... I pray to God everyday that its 85 out tomorrow. Up here in Michigan we're luck to hit 55.
 
I live in the Tampa Bay area and our high daily temps are around 85 or 86 right now and at night about 68. Its been wet this March so yeah humidity is kinda high right now. April start's Florida's dry season though so humidity is going to drop between now and June assuming we have a normal Spring. June starts our Hurricane season. Humidity will become a problem once again with temps into the 90s and humidity pushing the heat index to over 100 come August/September. The OP isnt using a/c obviously and my guess doesnt use it much if at all the rest of the year so hence his rust problem.


On the flip side we Floridians wonder how Northerners cope with below zero temps and many feet of snow in the winter or how many places there get 2 inches of rain in a day and have big floods where here we get 2 inches of rain an hour and dont have floods other than some minor street flooding. I guess we all learn to adapt to our environments.

Child's Play...Its 87 here, pretty low for this time of year. With a summer high of just under 120 degrees (phx)
 
Took mashie's advice and just bought an aluminum case. I don't think they make stainless steel screws, do they?
 
I have a Supermicro SC750A that I am currently chopping into an HTPC box. It was sitting in my room for about 3years, and now its got a ton of rust that is giving me a lot of trouble to get off.
