I'm considering taking out the 2 seven inch drive bay covers from the front and replacing them with steel/metal mesh. I'm wondering if this has been tried or consdidered by any of the great modders here.
Reason for Mod: The case will not allow any 5.25 bay device to sit flush with the system. This is by design. I do not wish to custom cut the bays at this time but if the advice given leads in that direction, or if the mesh mod ends up looking horrible or for some reason, undoable, then i will permanentyly mod the bay covers. I currently use an optical drive and a cool flower fan controller, if your familiar with the case, the fan controller will not even come close to sitting flush. I am considering tossing the optical drive for an aditional HD hot swap slot which, for the same reasons as the fan controller, will not work with the case unmodified.
My plan:
1.Select the mesh.
2.Paint the mesh, black is boring but probably a good plain choice to start.
3.Due to exposure i will most likely paint the removable bay tray the same color.
4.Attach the mesh either on the inside of the outer portion of the lanbox case or to the removable bay tray.
Any input is welcome
edit:
seems no one has tried or cared, so shall forge ahead, i removed the 7" top bay plate and am currently searching for some mesh that might come close to the mesh on the bottom of the case
Edit: been reading about people cutting up mesh trash cans etc, might prove to be a cheap alternative
