Lan party build ideas ?

looking to build a sff build which i can take to lan parties. doesn't have to run games with all settigns maxed at out max resolution just want something to run games at decent settings and frame rates. looking at the abit nf-m2 nview mobo with a x2 3800 processor, 2gb value ddr2 corsair ram and a 7950gt in a microfly case with a enermax 500 watt liberty psu. will be doing mild ocin on the x2, would the stock cooler be sufficient for this ? and how far can i reach with stock cooling ? budget is around $1000.

The abit am2 mATX mobo is a reaaaallly good board i heard. That seems like a pretty nice l4nb0xxxx

Not sure how far you can get on stock cooling, but you would probably have to find a low profile aftermarket cooler.

If you drill out the rivets on the side support that holds the hard drive, you will be able to fit some of the larger heatsinks like the Zalman 9500. The only downside is having to mount the hard drive in the 3.5" or 5.25" bay.

You could probably do 2.2-2.4 safely with a stock AM2 3800 X2 hsf but I wouldnt push it more than that without a good aftermarket unit. In fact it'd be best to go ahead and get the aftermarket hsf regardless how high you plan to overclock it. Safer that way and certainly be more quiet and cooler.

any recommendations on a after market hsf ? was looking at the zalman 8000

Anything Zalman is always good. Same goes for Scythe. I've also heard the Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro is pretty good as well, and quite inexpensive.

Also, think of changing the RAM to something other than value. Get mid-grade atleast...it doesn't have to be corsair, they are overpriced most of the time (IMO)
