LAN games over different subnets?

I live in the dorms at college, and my friends and I would like to play some games over the building's network. One game is Worms Armageddon that uses either TCP/IP or IPX/SPX protocol, and the other is Red Alert 2 that uses IPX/SPX. However each floor has it's own subnet and some of us are on different floors. The 2nd floor has a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and mine on the 3rd floor is 255.255.255.192, so that when we join the LAN lobbies.. our computers can't see each other, i'm assuming this is because the broadcast packets aren't being recieved. Is there anything i can do to get these games working? One game is Worms

I don't know how those specific games are set up(with regards to network play), but if one computer is set up as the server, then just have everyone else connect directly to that computer(if that is possible with those games).

Find out the IP of the server, and most games will let you enter the server's IP. You might have to select Internet Game instead of LAN on the client. Yes, your assumption is probably correct, since you are on different subnets you aren't seeing the broadcast packets announcing the LAN game.

Thanks for the help.. this is the first time i've used this forum, and i appriciate the help and timely responses

Did it work? If not try using a program to create a virtual LAN like Hamachi. Easy to install/use.

The internet connect thing is the answer. Back in the Half Life 1 multiplayer days sometimes friends' computers couldn't 'see' the server on our LAN so we would just write down the IP and have them connect to that IP (we had to use internet mode back then too) and it would work usually.

I think Internet we'll have to end up playing over the internet.. thats the only thing that seems like it will work, thanks for the the help i appreciate it

I agree that you should use the internet tab and type in the IP of the server. Remember to disable any firewalls and have fun!
