Anyone have any experience with the performance and noise levels of the Laing DDC pump 12V Pro http://www.alphacool.de/xt/product_info.php?products_id=701&cPath=5_26_267

Or the laing D5, do all the laing D5's have a speed adjuster? Can you use it with 3/8" ID? From what I hear it would be to loud for me.

Also anyone have experience with the noise levels of this pump: http://www.frozencpu.com/ex-pmp-26.html

It shows bare lead wires in the picture of the polarflo but in the description says it comes with a 4-pin power supply connector?

Noise is a major factor with the best performance/noise ratio.

Thanks

The Polarflo pump is a Laing D4, which is known to have an annoying whine to it. No experience with the D5 though it is often used in high flow systems. The DDC is supposedly a bit louder than the Aquastream and when mounted in an Aquabay has been known to vibrate a bit. However, that may be fixable with the right kind of anti-vibration pads. If you are considering the Laing DDC then you might want to get a Watercool plexi top for it so you can use 1/4 BSPP fittings and increase the flow rates significantly.

The D5 was apparently produced to rectify the whining that the D4 produced, as well as produce more head pressure, IIRC. Couldn't tell you from experience, I use a comparable Swiftech MCP-655.

There is a big differance between the the D4 and D5 in sound levels.............. :D The D5 is almost silent compared to the original D4 Laing pump. I have 3 of them, the original D4, PolarFlo D4 and a Swiftech D5. For overall flow, I love the original D4 with 370 GPH flow, but the noise gets to you after a while. The later D4 version only has 317 GPH but the sound isn't near as bad.
I'd get the D5 over any of the other Laing pumps.

Forgot to answer your question about using the D5 with 3/8 tubing, the answer is yes you can, Swiftech has been doing it for a while on their older systems with use of a adapter............. :D

I haven't tried my DDC yet, but I had a thread just like yours. And in the end went with the DDC over the D5. In real world results, the D5 gets about 3-4*C cooler than the DDC. I don't know where I read this, but it was a legitamate comparison of the two back to back.

Here's a good comparision of a bunch of pumps, the D5 isn't in the test as it wasn't out yet. But the D4 is and their performance is close.

The MCP350 is very well suited for PC water-cooling systems incorporating waterblocks that have been optimized for lower flow rates that also require above average head to overcome the added flow resistance of smaller ID tubing and multiple waterblocks connected in series.

The larger MCP650 pump also manufactured by Laing and sold by Swiftech is better suited for ½” ID systems that require higher flow rates for optimal cooling at the expense of larger size and more noise.

Thanks for the help guys, I like the way the polarflo looks but I am going with the Laing DDC pro with plexi top. I am sure the D4 and D5 would be too noisy for me.
