Lagging on GTA IV

My friend gave me GTA IV and I am lagging and can't even watch the cut scenes in the game. My specs, in sig, match or even exceed the recommended requirements for the game. Is there a way to update the game with the launcher or in the game itself?

Also, I lag while exiting the game. All help is appreciated.

Update:
I decided to update GTA-IV to the latest patch. It removed Social club, and when I launch it, it stops working before even getting to the game menu. So the update that I found on the rockstar website which was suppose to fix the lag, won't let the game work now....

Uninstalled the game until someone can help me with this problem.

What settings were you running at?
Did you try turning down the shadows?
 
Unfortunately GTV IV PC is a pile of shit. Patches did fix some framerate and crashing issues but even then patching the game can be problematic. I know I had my share of problems.. but I eventually got it working fine.

Also the game is notorious for bad framerates and terrible optimization, so don't expect it to run amazing since its a few years old.
 
Using a Ph.II 940 and Radeon 5770 at 1680x1050, I had to turn shadows down to medium before I got acceptable performance. Also used the Visual IV mod and RealizmIV textures which gave a small framerate boost AND made it look better.
You might could also try some of the command line settings like memrestrict. After that, the only problem that persisted was "texture pop-in", but I never could resolve that.

As others have said, even though it's a few years old, it's still a hassle to get it running great.

EDIT: Also read that disabling the Windows Event Log service can get rid of lag/stuttering. Wouldn't hurt to tr y a disk defrag (at least in the game directory) either.

the answer to your question is very simple, you need top pc to run correctly this game all high, 4 core Intel processor and 480 or 580, and only nvidia forget about ati

there is on other way around
