LaCie Bigger Disk Extreme

I could be wrong, but it looks like it's an external RAID 0 with 4 250gb drives, or 4 400gb drives.

Thats exactly what it is... its a shame you cant configure it in other RAID formats (5, 0+1).

i always see this company with some of the first types of a product out, has anyone had any luck with them

LaCie was a big name in the monitor business for its professional CRT monitors. As for this product, it seems like a grab for media attention, but as LaCie's products have been solid for many years, it's not all hype.

they "specialize" in the Mac segment, especially with the "Design" community and are a solid storage "repackager\integrator" they dont "make" HDDs but retool them, assembling external enclosures, RAID solutions ect.

so as far as Id actually trust an external
they are a reliable company

The disks are in JOBD. There not in RAID 0. So biggest problem with this type of setup is if one the HDD heads hits you've just lost a ton of data. So there nice but I wouldn't trust any thing I value on them.
