I am getting a LACIE 1TB from my buddy. I was wondering if there are any mods available for them or if you can upgrade the hard drives yourself, possibly to a larger capacity. I dont know the exact model at this moment but he did tell me that it suppors Firewire/Firewire 800/USB. I will have the drive this weekend and am gonna try it out. Also I was surfing the web lookin for sites/forums that had more info on their NAS but really didnt find anything. Any help, advice or links to other sites would be appreciated. Thanks :)

I'm not a big fan of the LaCie drives. They run raid 0 out of the box, they don't encourage backups (now that you've got one, what will you back it up on!?), and the enclosures are fairly poorly designed from what I've heard. I can't find anything about drive upgradeability; you could always get the drives and try, and if it doesn't work buy a different enclosure. I believe they use PATA drives inside; don't get SATA if you're going to try that.

thanx bro..i never had one before and i just wanted one to play with..but u answered my questions and raised more doubts lol abt whether it was a wise choice to get it..my only reason to get it was the hope that i could put in bigger hdd..and as for back up lol this is supposed to be my back up..i dint get the lacie this weekend..so i might just make my own..i have plenty of stuff around..just wanted a neat solution that was portable..but guess u cant have it all :(
