So..since I will be at my dorm the whole weekend, I will be finally pulling up my old Dell P4 1.4 online as well as set up VNC for both the comps to monitor it. And also start waiting for a new PC from Viper. :p

Oh question for mage. How/can I run TightVNC and Samba on Anti-Fold server? If anyone is worse than mary at Linux, I will be in the running.

I'm taking a little cutie out Monday night. But unlike K*, I won't be turning off the garden, I might try some overclocking sincei t's kinda cooling down. I've gotta catch 184oz somehow. Must have more P4s for QMDs!!

That and catching up on MUCH needed sleep.

Samba is already running, and although TightVNC is not a possibility, ssh through putty is; you can remotely access it fine through that. I'd appreciate another person downloading and trying it; budec is having problems getting it to boot and I'd like to know if it's him or everyone. It works for me (tm).

As for what I'm doing, sitting in the dorm room sounds about right. See if I can borg some of the other people on campus.

Actaully found a girl who doesnt mind the farm being on...

so STFU... :D

oh yea.. she comes over tomorrow morning...
got plans for the day..
bbq on sunday (shes comming to)
then hanging out with her on monday and tuesday too..

I'm gonna be a tired boy. :D

:( Work, work ,and more work.
And my borg probably wont get turned on for the weekend either.

You can route VNC traffic though SSH connection (makes it more secure), I can give you info on that. The only problem would be requiring X and also some basic windows manager. If you have X though VNC, you don't have to configure it for the video card.

The build you have now is only 10 megs, you still got 640 megs to work with :p

To clarify, it works on 3 of the computers I've got borg, it's only throw that error on 1 of the computers. The build is working, just having problems with this certain computer.

Any info on what might be causing it? IDE controller, hard drive setup, etc? I can try differant hardware combination or bios settings if you think that would help it.

Labor day weekend plans?

Girlfreind is coming over tomorrow and staying all next week.... I got 5 computers I need to setup and probably won't have time to turn em into fold servers.

All my other home boxen and going strong and got my work ones online (2 dual xeon ht's @ 3.0 Ghz and 1 2.8 ghz laptop (no HT :( ))

I hope-

Not working
Not doing anything folding releated

I need a break...

54 hours of work in 3 days, yuk.

Annual family gathering. HW is taking a backseat for the weekend. I'm so burnt out already. Been doing 4 hrs of physics tonight - wait make that 5. On Sunday I'll be getting power strips to get two of my boxen back up. I didn't have enough plug-ins in my new apartment  .

-MN Scout

Tried a 3rd hard drive and no go :(

All three drives I checked in the BIOS and it detected them as:

Primary IDE
Master: Hard Drive
Slave: none
Secondary IDE:
Master: CD-ROM
Slave: none

When it first boots up (in linux) it detects the hard drive and CD-rom at the correct channels.

My wife is visiting her family, and took the baby along with her, so I'm alone at home. What are my plans? I'm building a computer desk for the house with 16 feet of counter-top space. Oh, and mowing my brother's lawn...

and hanging out here, naturally.

Yeah, but how much does she charge? ;)

This weekend is going to consist of sitting back, relaxing, trolling about the forums, and burning up some cycles in an alcohol laden gaming fest! :D

ok how is that done?

magnusvir: this does a pretty good job of explaining PuTTY to the novice, I think. A few differences, just to keep you on your toes:
instead of entering dipsy.cs.bham.ac.uk as a host name, enter the IP address of the fold-box machine. You can find this by logging in to the machine (user: root, password: Fold@on I think...) and entering this:
ifconfig eth0
You'll get back a bunch of junk, like this:
Code:
# ifconfig eth0
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:01:29:50:1B:0A
          inet addr:10.2.0.46 Bcast:10.2.0.47 Mask:255.255.255.252
UP BROADCAST NOTRAILERS RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
          RX packets:40695374 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:65810851 errors:11 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:11
          collisions:16710477 txqueuelen:1000
          RX bytes:4124600902 (3933.5 Mb) TX bytes:1180818325 (1126.1 Mb)
          Base address:0x9000 Memory:fa000000-fa020000
The only important part (right now) is the second line, where it says inet addr: 10.2.0.46. This is the IP address.

Anyways, enter the IP and make sure to select the "ssh" radio button. Enter a name in the "Saved Sessions" box, and hit save. It'll put an entry in the list, so you won't have to go through all that again.

Then hit Open, yes to the prompt, and log in. Now you're at the same console as before, just from a different machine. Cool?

Let me know if you hit problems, I'll try to explain myself better.

I'm moving up to my dungeon at UMASS, so that's going to take a few days to get all setup.

And no, no new boxen are comming online........ just free electricity for a few of them ^_^ YUM!!!!!!!!!!!

I am, going to finish moving teh last of my stuff and get my LAN set back up :) Anyone in NC/VA/SC know of a good place to pick up a 4 post rack for cheap? I can get em all day long on Ebay but teh shipping charges kill me.

getting the House ready to sell, moving closer to work. the two hours a day of commute is a killer after 140 hours average every two weeks. Trying to find a house, must meet these requirements;

Cable internet, for farm ;)
three bedroom , one for me, one for farm, and one for dad when he has to do the cancer tests, every three months.
two car garage, and shop for the race cars,
a place to cook and eat,
bathroom,
all else is optional, :D :D

dammit, I hit a snag.

I cannot remember where my IDE cables are as well the the cable to connect the PSU to the outlet. Stoopid me, now I have to look as it might be in my dorm storage room.

Where can I get power cables? Local Walmart will have them?

I would imagine you could find them at a Fry's, CompUSA, BestBuy, OfficeMax or Staples. I would first try a local Mom and Pop type computer store. They usually carry stuff like that in a big cardboard box by the door with a sign that says "Cables for $2" or something like that. If you can wait a while I have two or three spares laying around I could send you for the cost of shipping.

Well if your'e up for road trip, you've got Fry's and CompUSA down in Indy. Walmart does carry power cables, but they are normally the prohibatively expensive APC cables.

Ok thanks. I believe there is a mom and pop store close to where I live. I can actually walk down there. Maybe not a bad day after all.
