L4D Review up at IGN

9, nice. and with help from the modding community, replayability will go to 10 and beyond.

so when are they releasing the game? tonight at 12 eastern? or do i have to wait for 12 my time?......orrr can i change my clock right now to tomorrow? :p

IGN has become such a bad place for reviews.
When they get so critical on excellent games(some with +8 hour campaigns and MP), yet give this...4x 30min scenarios a "9" in playability makes me laugh.

I know Im in the minority, but gameplay videos look like crap. Source completely fails to grab me anymore.

Ill wait for the masses to grab the game and listen to the people before I get it.

or you could...you know....try the demo for yourself?:confused::confused:

ok i love L4D, but how the FUCK can you review THIS game before it even comes out, when the online community and experience is the biggest part of the game???

this is fucking stupid.... seriously....

I'm pretty sure they'll release additional content (more scenarios, etc) like they did with TF2.

Because they played the released game, and reviewed what they had? I guess nobody can review any game that has multiplayer, until it's been out for long enough for the community to put it through its paces for a few months?

Valve has no video nor had anyone play any part of the game outside of the demo.... oh wait.
Movies also get screened and sent out to groups for review and study...

I didn't like this game on the first play through of the demo. I exited out and then ended up wanting to play it later that night again. Now after about 15 play throughs of the demo, I think I'm going to buy it.

Auto loading shotgun ftw

I did and I agree with him completely.

They did it with the Battlefield games, and they're almost entirely online-oriented. It's nothing new. This is why, unfortunately, so many people pirate games: not because they're cheap, but because reviewers are sycophantic invalids and game companies rarely release demos. Everyone I know that's downloaded a game and liked it has bought it. The ones they didn't, they don't.

To summarise: bring back competent reviews, or demos. Both, preferably.

I could quote my self on these boards saying I had mixed feelings about the demo, but after playing 4ish hours, I am glad I preordered. This game has 10 times the modding potential of any other source game before it and I am sure it will be realized withing the next few years.

In preparation for tonight I have began to drink Vodka + NOS branded energy drinks. I have been up since 8am so I have a 50-50 chance of staying up till 4 or crashing @ 10 pm.

Wish me luck!

I don't know about you, but I try to pay for the game and hope for mods to extend the lifespan. I don't pay for it and cross my fingers that someone in their bedroom comes up with something that justifies the outlay for me.

Lets put it this way... already being personally hyped for this game, enormously, for IGN --a rather "picky" lot these days-- to give it a 9.0, despite it's "short length", only boosts my confidence... as long as the major multithreading/multicore issues are smoothed out.

They're able to review it ahead of time, also, due to the fact that the game can be played single-player and, honestly, the AI in this game is sometimes better than the friggin' people you play with in real life. But I'm sure they've had plenty of people, between the devs, publisher and people in the office, to play and test the game with.

I don't know about blasting through a campaign on harder modes in 30 minutes or less, and despite the "only four campaigns" comment in the review, remember, there are five full maps in each campaign. Coupled with the massive replayability on it's own, plus with modders/mappers, this is going to be a hell of a game, and a long-lasting one at that.

My own personal...

I don't want to take us off course here, but I just found this line pretty funny.

You're entitled to "your own", but what exactly is "funny" about it?

The replay value of L4D has been a major point for many people, between the AI director, the experience of playing with different people, modders/mappers etc. ...but if it's "funny" to you due to you not believing there to be any replay value here, well... to each his/her own.

A lot of people seem to dislike GameSpot, but this is one of the reasons why I do like them. They only review retail copies of games. They do play review copies, but they won't write a review until they have played the retail version.

As I look at my Steam games list, the only thing I can say with absolute certainty is any game on that list that has been spearheaded by Valve, has granted me such enjoyable entertainment that it exceeds the less than $.50 per playable hour of actual gaming. Take for instance, Team Fortress 2, which I have played for 100+ hours yet spent ~$20. I can trust Valve produced games for entertainment, so my pre-order decision was easy.

I've played the demo no less than 5 hours and already have a crew of 4 lined up to start tomorrow night. Do I wish there were more maps? I can't say for sure, but probably. Will I play the hell out of the 4 campaigns that ship? Ohhhhh yeah.

Or.. there is no excuse what so ever to pirate a game, nothing said will justify it at all.

Perhaps they gave them 4 review copies so they could get 4 people together to review it properly? I don't trust IGN in general though. They suck up too much to the games they review. Gametrailers at least makes an attempt to find flaws to mention in each review.

In any case, I've run through that demo like 20 times already, and that's just 2 maps. I can't wait for the full game plus versus.

downloading the demo right now. can someone who's already played explain to me the co-op system? is there a server browser where you can meet up with random people to play (like a typical MP game)? or do you have to start a server and then grant access to people you've already arranged to play with?

CTRL ALT DEL does it again. Zoey is pretty hot, I play with her :D

on MANY occasions, at the end of the train level, i've had teammates kill the other 2 guys so only his character and the girl finish and he can "have" her, lol... hilarious...

i must be missing something. i've 'pre-loaded' the demo but it says it's locked until i purchase the game. there's no way you have to purchase the game to play the freakin demo. someone tell me what's going on.

edit: just saw that the demo ends on Nov. 18th. am i too late to play?

Yep

LoL. that happened to mee too. Spent all the the time going through the whole level. Then at the very end at the top of the stares this guy shoots a gasoline container right inftont of the last safe room. It blows up and kills me and the old dude.
Then the biker dude and zoey run into the safe room and complete the level. At first I was like . But then I laughed so hard at the scenario that just occured.:D

Looks like this is going to be worse than Far Cry 2 according to their score. Game reviews are mostly written by neanderthals, so take them with an ocean of salt.

haha, its seriously happened to me about 5 times, with the "winner" openly bragging that he "got the girl" in different ways....

absolutely sick.... and hilarious, each time it happened i lol'ed uncontrollably

Okay I just played the campaign on expert and a few rounds of versus and this is already the best game I have played of 2008.

MUCH MUCH MUCH BETTER than Far Cry 2!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't even bring myself to finish FC2 after playing for 10 hours.

Uh, what?

It took myself and my friend 3.3hrs to complete just the first campaign on "Expert" and we are tenured league-competitive FPS gamers.

Or.. there is no excuse what so ever to pirate a game, nothing said will justify it at all.

There's a distinction between explaining the motives behind someone's actions and trying to excuse them, chumley.

IGN have to be the biggest bunch of sycophants on the net. These arse-kissers gave FarCry 2 8.9!:rolleyes::confused::mad:

I'll disregard the review and wait for a reliable source.

Haven't had so much fun in awhile... though playing as Zoey a few times felt kind of weird when people "killed" our teammates to be with me... ughhhh

Bunch of low social computer nerdlings! I hope this doesn't become a trend.
