you can get a free copy of left 4 dead right now...just go to your nearest gamestop, look at the left 4 dead display box, and inside should be the quick reference guide with key, plug into steam, and volia free l4d...

those keys go to the copies of the game they keep behind their counter so they don't have to buy extra cases for display purposes only, so when someone *pays* for that they'll find that there isn't a working key, nice of you.

its a display model, it even had a sticker on it that said "Floor Model", when you bring the box up to the counter, they give you a sealed copy and you just put the model back where you got it, and you have a brand spanking new sealed l4d copy.
 
The nearest EBGames and Gamestop puts all the PC games behind the counter where I live. I got a few copies of BF2 back then when they still had it outside, had a blast with my friends 8]
 
Hmm...tempting, but I don't know if I'd play it much or not. I'm just not very good at splitting my time between games.

I guess you don't know their policy... That display model's disc is kept in a sleeve behind the counter and when it's their last copy, they sell that.

They've been doing this for years, it sucks that they do this, but what you did sucks too, you did steal two copies of a game from a store and people are going to get screwed from it eventually...
 
and when they make their complaints to valve/steam, wont they trace the key back to your account? and when they do that, wont your account along with all the other games on that account get toasted? what a big risk to take with this kind of scheme. the guy making the complaint will most likely have a picture of the key along with the receipt as proof of purchase. pretty screwed once they decide to do something about it.
 
Damn, was hoping this would be for the 360 version, since that's what everyone I know is playing it on.

steam/valve probably wont care; happened to me - bought the last display disc of CSS. wont register, sent valve an email and they responded with a link to the FAQ. if i want the key moved, it's $10.. which was how much i paid for the game in the first place so it wasnt worth it to me. worst of all it was a gift so i only the original key insert but not a receipt

bastard thieves.
L4D's 37.49 on steam now, btw

It's a fun game but I got bored quickly just playing at a friends for a weekend... I don't know if I want to spend me money D;

what do u mean? The key isnt IN the box! I took the reference sheet with the key on it! They will have nothing to show valve except the box and the discs, no key there!
