So over the past few days I've been reading up about monitors and quite frankly I'm ready to just shoot myself in the face.

Honestly, viewing angle isn't an issue. This monitor is going to be sitting on my desk and I'll be sitting directly in front of that desk - so there is no problem right?

I'll be doing a lot of gaming and web browsing, but no movie watching (I've got a decent TV for that). I really like 16x10 but I would use a 16x9 if it were a truly amazing monitor.

The Dell U2410 looks great, and has great reviews but there are a lot of people here who have issues with it and I can't quite tell if they are just knit-picking or if those issues really are serious

The L2440x is a decent monitor. Its TN and well... I'm ok with TN. It has good black levels which are important to me, response time is decent, and the color isn't too saturated. I'd just have a hard time justifying paying a premium on something that isn't quite premium.

HP LP2480zx and the NEC 2490 series are out of the question.
 
I'm pretty sure the Lenovo L2440X is TN. I think i read somewhere that they had changed it from PVA to TN so they could lower the price. Which is nice because I don't think I could stand the response time on a PVA monitor. I'll check out the BenQ

Wrong ;) Viewing angles are an issue even if you sit directly in front of the screen. It may or may not bother you but TN will always have uniformity issues due to their very narrow vertical viewing angles and PVA screens have gamma shifting at an angle.

I'm also looking for a 24" LCD and unfortunetaly there seem to be no good IPS panels with decent price out there. The U2410 looked very promising but the tinting issue has put me off especially when Dell don't consider it a defect.

I recently tried a 24" TN, and if I looked at the center, the colour on the edges were different because of the angle.

I personally would only notice it if I was looking for it, but if I was focused on a game or whatever I don't think it would bother me
