KVM Switches

I'd like to be able to switch back and forth between two of my computers here, to check folding and test compatibility stuff with XP since VirtualPC takes 530mb of ram to run, it cut into stuff. So it looks like my best bet is a KVM switch, which I know jack about.

I figure there are a few of you folders out there using or having experience with KVM switches. So here is what I would require...

Switch between powermac and pc
Most preferably have keyboard hotkeys
Support 1920x1200 res
USB mouse and keyboard

I don't mind having more than a '2port' switch either as if I have to fix a friends comp or something. I can see that my screen res may be the biggest limiting factor but I don't know a lot about my options!

Any help is as always appreciated.

got a network? your best bet is remote desktop, that's how i keep track of all my Folding Boxes

Hmmm, but I need the speed of a physical connection to test stuff out and what not. However, what program do you use? OS X compatible?

I was about to recommend the IOGEAR GCS612A until I saw the USB KB/Mouse requirement. Bummer, that.

Colleague was working in the same environment you mention, and the "cheapie" All-in-one USB Belkin wasn't cutting it. Kept screwing up reconnecting to the PC, but the Mac kept chugging along. Might want to cast a glance at this KVM at the 'Egg for the USB and vid resolution you're looking for.

You can get one from fry's electronics for arround 30 bucks. has all the cables for 4 systems.

I have two of those Airlink+ KVMs - very nice for just $30, however, they do not use USB and do not have Audio. But for quick switching between monitors and PS2 keyboards and mice, they work great.

I also have one of the 2 port Airlink+ KVM switches - again, works perfectly.

The nice thing about these KVMs vs. an old one I had is the keyboard, video, and mouse are all included in one plug that you plug into the KVM, but on the other side, you have the three different connectors - the one cable makes it very easy and neat to use.

However, they don't fit the original poster's requirements.
