ok im about to have 2 systems and only have 1 keyboard. mouse. monitor. i was planning to get one from compusa for 20$ its a belkin. my question is, is it gonna degrade my display quality? and i have a mx-700 wireless mouse is that kvm gonna affected in any way? thanks:)
 
i dont know which switch you saw at compusa, but i got one from the belkin site. its really good. you dont need to press any buttons on it so you can hide it wherever you want. it switches with a keyboard command. AND it has audio support so you dont always have to switch your speakers. I forgot how much it was but i think Belkin still has that coupon deal on there. 50% off when you put in the coupon 12345 number at checkout.

and to answer your question, i dont think it degrades the display. Everything looks really good on my setup.

The mouse maybe affected. It depends on the OSes on the machines. And the KVM. I have a Belkin Soho, and with logitech mice using the LOGITECH drivers whenever I switched between machines the Windows machines using the logitech drivers would not see the mouse once I switch through once.

On my linux machines I get different weird problems with X, however I can refresh X via switching to console and back to X and clears it up.

I noticed if I used the default drivers with Windows I had no issues with the mouse and all buttons and scroll wheel worked fine.
 
I have an IO Gear cheapy 2 port KVM and my MX700 does not have any problems with newer computers. I have noticed that some older (think AT style 486/386) do have problems accepting the KVM.

The biggest problem i had with KVM's monitor resolution. Some of the cheap ones don't support high resolutions. (1600x1200 etc...) Look at the specs.
