KVM Switch With Docked Laptop - Problem

Hi,

I am trying to use a Latitude D630 docked in a PR01 port replicator with a KVM switch. The problem I am having is that the video signal is not displayed using the PR01 DVI port.

The Latitude D630 itself does not have a DVI port, however, when docked in the PR01, the port replicator has a DVI port that will display a video signal when connected directly to a monitor. When the KVM switch is placed in line between the PR01 and the monitor then the DVI signal is not displayed.

If the same setup is used with a different KVM switch, ie, a VGA enabled KVM switch then the video signal is displayed. I have tried using different DVI inputs on the KVM switch but without success.

Any help or advice to resolve the issue most appreciated.

The model of the KVM switch would be helpful. I'm guessing it's incompatible with your port replicator. When you say the same setup is used with a VGA KVM switch, are you still using the DVI port or the VGA port on the port replicator? Also, did you try updating your drivers?

It is an Aten 2 port KVM switch, model CS1762 with USB/DVI/Audio connectivity.

When I tried the same laptop docked in the same port replicator with VGA, I used a different KVM switch, ie, one that had VGA connectors. In this case, the DVI connectivity was not used, ie, I pulled out the DVI cable from the port replicator.

For both DVI and VGA testing, the KVM at the time was the only unit connected to the port replicator.

Thx

Contact Aten Support and see if they can help. I'd assume, since the port replicator works with DVI straight to the monitor, Dell support won't help much, if at all.
