Ok, I recently bought this Belkin KVM switch to switch between a laptop and desktop using the same monitor, keyboard, and mouse. It gets power from the ps2 ports on the computers, however, the laptop is a Dell Insipiron 8500 which doesn't have any ps2 ports. I bought a usb to ps2 cable to solve that problem. Anyhow, when I switch from the laptop to the desktop it works great. When I try to switch from the desktop to the laptop, it only works 1 in 20 times or so. I think this is caused by lack of power coming from the usb port on the laptop. If that is the case, would a powered KVM switch make a difference at all? Like this one for example? Thanks for your help!

Id assume so, I run dual powered KVMs,
(they are dual so I can switch dual monitors inbetween the 4 computers each with dual video cards)
however your 2nd link isnt a seperately power KVM either

in the case of mine, they have a push button mode as well,
which is ideal since I dont have a mouse or keyboard attached to the 2nd one

they are IOGear extreme multimedia (as they had the resolution support I needed)
there is a 2 port version but its pricey, there is another far less expensive version but
Im not sure its externally powered or has the push button feature based on a quick newegg search
