KVM and 4870 with HTPC

[rockdude14]

I have a 4870 with a 20" dell for the main and a projector using hdmi with the dvi-hdmi adapter from ati

I'd like to get a second monitor (specifically the hp zr24w)
Does anyone know if the dvi-hdmi adapter that ati makes will work on the output of the kvm so the projector can still use hdmi?

Also does anyone know of a decent dvi kvm switch that isnt ridiculously expensive?

thanks

I cant find any dvi kvm switches for less than a hundred (with so-so reviews)
could I just use my adapter to go to a hdmi switch and than run an hdmi cable to my monitor and use a hdmi to dvi adapter

since hdmi switches are like 15$ compared to over 100$ for a dvi one
or is this going to degrade performance some how
