kv7 and mobile 2600+

I just got this combo: Abit KV7 and (Barton) Mobile 2600+. Not exactly cutting edge, but I have a few problems.

1) The KV7 does not recognize the CPU and defaults to 6x100 with no option to change the multiplier and only options for 100-132 FSB.

2) Using CrystalCPUID to change the multiplier works but causes crashes on any kind of load (like viewing a quicktime movie, or just launching prime95).

is that what I need?
 
The KV7's BIOS most likely doesn't support Mobile/Barton CPU's try and look for a newer BIOS that's supports your CPU, and if there isn't one you are prolly out of luck and will need different mobo.
 
I have tried the most recent BIOS for this board with no luck. I bought this board because the other board I tried had the same problem...was hoping this one would be different. If this is the case can someone recommend a board to me that would work with the Athlon XP-M 2600+?
 
Megadeth thanks for your replies...would the plain NF7 v2 work just as well as the NF7-S v2? I have no need for the extra features, just want a fast stable board. I assume both would work, but don't want to make another mistake.

#1...totally normal and expected...

#2...it should not cause crashes...look at your other hardware...ie power supply, sudden increase in load requires more power...

The only socket A mainboard that will OFFICIALLY detect a mobile is the DFI lanparty series...
