Does anyone know if these KRK Rokit Powered RP5 come in the Limited Edition White? Also what else would be needed to make them work on my computer? At first I was planning on going with the Swan M10's, but after looking around I decided these were more to my liking, and they are only $40 more expensive [<- regular version].

Thanks

The RP5s are only available in black or limited edition yellow (really grotesque -- don't bother). Only the first- and second-generation RP6s have gotten white limited edition versions.

To just hook them up, they should come with a 1/8" to RCA cable that is technically all you need. The guy in that video was using that PreSonus device as either a DAC or preamp. Not something you need to use the speakers.

OTOH, some type of DAC or good (non-gaming) soundcard would be ideal for nice monitors like those.

unless you are doing audio production this is a complete waste of time. for the same money you can get an amazing 5.1 or 7.1 system or a cheap system + upgrade.

Do you do audio production? heh.

It's around $300. I don't think you can get "amazing" 5.1 or 7.1 system for that much money.... and monitors are not a waste when used with music playback. They are a ton better than using some cheap 5.1 satellites.

Please, OP, you have made the right choice. There is no 5.1/7.1 system that will even be able to touch the quality these monitors will produce.

Thanks Guys for the replys reasurring my next purchase. If anyone else is looking into these BHPhotovideo.com has them for $129.99 with free shipping and no sales tax (NY has sales tax). And if you have a GuitarCenter near by and want to pick them up, GC will price match and give you an additional 10% off ($232.20 + Tax) and of course there is no shipping.. I went and checked them out yesterday and they are FN! sweet. :D

Are these KRK Rokit monitors good for watching movies and will they sound any good gaming (example Battlefield 2) ? Since they are onsale it puts them in the same range as swan d1080mkII and Behringer MS40's.

Rokits come in three configurations: one with the 5" woofer, one with a 6" woofer and one with an 8" woofer. For gaming and movies, both the RP5 and RP6 should probably be complemented with a sub. The RP8s have very passable bass extension and wouldn't necessarily demand a sub, but they'd benefit from one unless you'd have a difficult time controlling bass in your room.

The "you really don't need a sub at all" thing doesn't really start happening until you hit 10" woofers if you ask me. For music, this is a bit different, but movies (action movies, anyway) and games start to really shine when you're able to really slam the low end.

Suffice to say you'd still have a good time listening to Star Wars: Ep 2 or Lord of the Rings on the RP5s, but you'd definitely be missing a lot of what designers have worked pretty hard at cramming in the sub-100 Hz range.
