KoTOR

I actually own the game and never really got into it...I'm thinking perhaps because I was expecting a different kind of gameplay.
After reading this thread, I figured I would give it another try...and now it runs very choppy on Vista...

I might try it again at some point (if I get to fix the choppiness), but I am telling you all...the story 'd better be THAT good...because even my 2nd time around (just for a few mins but still...) wasn't all that great either...I hope the game picks up after a little while...

Yeah, Im feeling the drag too, but im only just now getting to run around on my own. Tried to get a droid, but it blew up after getting out the front door, heh.

I have to choose which game I want to play with my limited time. Either play some TF2, do more on my TF2 map or play KOTOR.

Lately though, TF2 has been winning the coin toss. Its strange too. Im thinking about playing KOTOR all day long, I get home, spend time with the kids, wife, yadda yadda and then, at night when I have MY TIME, I come back here wanting to play KOTOR but end up double clicking the TF2 icon on my desktop. Oyyyy. To many games, TOTALLY not enough time.

Don't get me wrong, the 2nd is a fun and engaging game. It is just no fleshed out as well as teh first game.

Well I have played the first KOTOR 2-3 times and I played the second one 1.5 times. Both games were a lot of fun and I enjoyed changing things out as I progressed each time. I tend to agree that I like the first game a lot more than the second mainly because the last few parts of the second game just seemed to be a little unfinished compared to the first KOTOR.

In terms of my favorite RPGs, I think I would say that I still like Final Fantasy VII (PC version had horrible graphics but it was still fun for me) and after that would be KOTOR, then NWN (the original), and finally KOTOR2. I still to this day don't know why I liked FFVII so much considering it was a port with horrible controls and graphics compared to the console version. I haven't played enough of NWN2 to really rate it on this list just yet.

AHAH I feel the exact same way...too many games, too little time...

When I click on the games shortcuts folder I see Bioshock, COD4, KOTOR and a bunch of other games, and even though I keep thinking I gotta give Bioshock and KOTOR another chance, I just keep clicking on COD4...LOL

I had been playing nothing but FPS games in the last couple months, so KOTOR was a nice change for me :p

But yeah.... been probably close to a month and I've logged less than 20 hours into it.... *shrug* my game only says 14:30 hours. Wives, ya know?

have you tried compatibility for win xp sp 2 in properties? Personally, for
xp games I dual boot and boot into xp. And yeah it's worth giving it another chance, the game really takes off by the time you've done the quests on the first planet.

Thing is if the story lines, and acting of the last three movies could have been as good as as the story and voice acting in this game.. I'd be a total star wars geek. I'm not, but KOTOR is still my favorite game experience. Which is saying a lot.

There are four fixes/work-arounds that I found the most helpful when I was having trouble with KoToR:

1. Run the game in 800 x 600. [If it works in other resolutions... cool; but this fixes many problems.]
2. Turn "grass" off if you glitch on the grasslands planet (Dantooine??). [see reason #1]
3. If the game glitches when your main character tries to do something, use a different character in your party to accomplish the task.
4. Make sure you have the latest patch. BUT, if you bought the "Best of Star Wars" DVD like I did, do NOT patch it. lol

SAVE OFTEN!

I could see where KOTOR could be a little boring at first, as is most adventure games.. I guess you just need to play through the frist world before the story starts to pick up. Once you rescue Bastilla, the game and story really takes off like a rocket.

Save often and have multiple save files. I've seen kotor screw up save files more than I would like to.

It ran extremely choppy on my Vista machine. I have an XP machine as well so I just run it on there.

Hmm, I tried a few things, and still no luck...still super choppy...
I might have to install it on my laptop in order to have it run on XP...

ah well...if the game is that good I guess that's not an issue...:)

Welp, Im 8+ hours into the game now and for the first time, last night while at work, I FELT THE ITCH to get home and play this game.

I was actually starting to get somewhere in the game. I figured out how to beat the big ass Rancor beast, kinda by accident. That kinda opened my eyes a bit more to the game. Theres more to it than I originally thought.

Then, going into the Vulkar base, I came across this room full of Vulkars. My party almost killed them all, but towards the end of the fight, another 2 Vulkars came into the fight and my whole party died. So then I thought, Ok, I wont go back in there till I have some better weapons or something. Then I came across this computer controll panel and was able to splice into it....There I was able to see a video shot of who was in that room and then realized I could overload the control panel they were standing next too. So I did just that....sure enough, it kills all but 2 Vulkars, which my party could easily kill.

By this time, it was nearing 3 in the morning, so this is where I left off.

The game was kinda boring in the beginning IMO, but Its really starting to get interesting now. I look forward to playing more after work tonight too.

Too easy IMO, but it was good enough for me to play through twice.

I love this game and everything about it. I hope we see an MMO, and a full on Lucas blessed (but not directed :> ) movie.

And the music! The music!

I've only had KoTOR installed since I bought it and reinstall for every new build. (my current sig is old, I'm lazy right now)

I prefer playing as Light. The moral paths in the game are pretty good and making you actually feel good or bad. But I just can't be bad on purpose like that. ;)

A fantastic game, indeed. It was like one big interactive movie, and one that could have made for a much better story than Episodes I-III. Hell, they could have made a much better trilogy focussed on the character of Revan.

I've enjoyed replaying the game as both light and dark, even trying both genders as the hero. Each combination yielded something worthwhile.

I did, though, prefer playing as the good guy, since the dark path offers some truly heinous choices to the players that I really had to force myself to do, such as letting Czerka enslave the wookies, or killing Mission.

On the other hand, being able to use Force Choke on the Czerka rep on Tatooine, well... just made my day. :)

I lost my installation discs a couple of years ago, and really missed the game, so when I picked up the DVD collection of "Star Wars: Best of PC," imagine my smile, when I saw that KOTOR was amongst the bundle.

Best 38 bucks I've spent in a long time... BattleFront, Republic Commando, Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, etc., are all keepers.

KOTOR is very very good. Story line wise and character wise. Though Jade empire is also awsome... (give more firefly actors voiceovers!!) but not as good as KOTOR. Mass Effect has the chance of taking the KOTOR crown though.

I could never bring myself to play a purely dark side character. The most I could ever do as a dark side was a middle of the road "grey" jedi. I am playing through again as a Consular. I usually went through as a Gaurdian or a Sentinel so I am exploring the force powers a lot more this time.
