Well i just got these on a trade, Awesome phones..light on the bass but overall made me less of a bass head.

I want to have a pair of comparable in price <70 phones that can match the quality but provide a more comfortable experience.

Well, HA-RX would be my first thought with that price cap. Also, used options abound.

koss pro 4aa need a TON of power to run correctly. unless you have a strong amp they will sound weak. still-they are old and dont compare to modern cans too well.
a jvc harx700 or 900 is good for your price

Ive been running a Double amp...my Z5500@ 75% and then into a simple headphone amp..its got the power...thats why im impressed with how decent they sound.

I was either going to get some SEN 550's for $80 or i can get Beyer DT770-PRO-250 for $130shipped.

Whats the best choice for this?

which amp? the pro4 cans are extremely hard to drive. they say 250 ohms but act like 600 ohm cans

Also, I wouldn't "double amp" as you put it. Really not a good idea to feed an amped signal into an amp. Preamped, yes. Amped, no.

The replacement you're looking for is the Pro4AAT (Pro4AA Titatium.) Improved sound, lighter packaging, better fitting.

Koss still makes those headphones today. I used to have a pair of Pro4AAA back in '79 and they sounded good straight out of my receiver.
