Koolance Liquid Coolant?

I was curious if it had biocide & algaecide already added. Also, I would be very interested if one of y'all has seen bio growth in your loop with the Koolance fluid.

It seems to be cooling my system pretty well, but I wouldn't complain if there was something better (and cheaper!).

I think it does. It's probably around 10-20% ethylene glycol (or a derivative of it) which has very good anti-algal properties to begin with.

The cheapest method is pentosin/Distilled water TBH.

I've been running my Koolance liquid for like 3yrs now or more and it's perfectly fine.
 
Not on this side of the pond :). 2.5L worth of coolant for 10$ (AC fluid) or 5$ (Pentosin) over here.

Yeah the dollar is sinking to new lows again. :eek: The stuff was selling on your side of the pond a few years back for about $7 IIRC. Over here it's less than 5 Euro's including 19% VAT. If you guys quit wasting your money in Iraq you money might be worth something. ;)

I once ran Koolance coolant for 4 years (with top-off's of course) without any ill effect.

I ran Koolance coolant in my Exos 2 for a while, and when I had to switch it out to a glycol mix with water (had to switch out hoses, so I didn't reseat the CPU) I had a 5C drop in temps on that switch alone. I highly doubt that the hose made a difference either. so I suggest going down and picking up a 4L of antifreeze and mixing it with water, you will get better results.

What size hose did you take out and what did you put back in? IIRC, the Koolance stuff is like 30% glycol. Did you mix the new stuff at the same concentration?

3/8 Koolance hose with 3/8 Tygon. I had mixed in whatever concentration made it green enough for my tastes, which was quite alot.
 
I've been running a Koolance Exos for about 5.5 years now on Koolance liquid and it's been perfectly fine. Interesting info from DaCoOlNeSs, though, about switching to antifreeze. Maybe in my next build (I'm down to an old P-III system now since my mobo died -- through no fault of my cooling system), I'll try antifreeze on my new Penryn. Can't wait for January...
 
I drained my brothers system and replaced the coolant in it a few months ago and he had been running the koolance coolant for a good 2 plus years. Didn't see any green in it after all of that time.
 
Regardless of what others may say, Koolance makes good stuff. Their coolant doesn't seem to have many of the problems associated with roll your own coolant. :)

I love my Exos to death because it looks awesome, I just want it to be a copper radiator :(

Like it's going to make that much difference.

I've had my EXOS for a long time, 3 years or more, maybe four. Next build I am going back to air. Changing all the crap everytime I upgrade a video card or motherboard is a pain in the ass. I haven't even bothered to put my new video card on it yet and probably wont.

it's not like it will make a difference, I just don't want to run glycol in my loop, I want the best temps I can but when you mix an Exos 2 with an Apogee you need Glycol or something like it otherwise you will get corrosion of sorts.
 
I've been running Koolance fluid for almost a year now and no issues/buildup/sea monkeys/algae.

I don't think I would get a 5C drop by changing it since I'm idling at 30 and loading at 43 on a Pentium D!

Not entirely true... If you isolate the radiator 100% from any contact with the case, you'll be fine with straight distilled water.

Seperate it using nylon washers, and use nylon screws to affix it to any metal, and you can run pure distilled water. Just make sure it's not connected to ground at all, use a multimeter.

Corrosion requires 3 things:
-Anode and Cathode (Copper, and Aluminum)
-Anode and Cathode submerged in a conductive fluid (aka, water, even if it's a great insulator when distilled)
-A metallic pathway connecting the Anode and Cathode (aka, your case's ground).

Since waterblocks are grounded, you can isolate your aluminum radiator from ground to prevent the third requirement, thus staving off accelerated galvanic corrosion.

while I am no scientist, I have not that much balls to try this.

Skip the biocide and use a 2% mixture of AC Fluid or its generic equivalent. I guarantee you won't have any problems because I have an aluminum reservoir, copper and silver blocks, copper radiator, and am running just 2% AC Fluid and distilled for several years now. No corrosion, cools great, and no biological blooms.

pardon my ignorance, but what does AC fluid mean?

Hmm, well, you could try checking to see if they really are isolated with a multimeter... Just check EVERYthing, and remember... anodization doesn't conduct electricity, so you might need to scape a few pieces off in hidden areas.

As long as the rad doesn't come in contact with the Exos body, it should be alright... The two cases are grounded together by means of data/voltage cables... Man, I'd love to see inside an exos again to check...
 
Which would be the better liquid to use, Koolance fluorescent blue or G11 & PT Nuke ?

It's premixed so it's just a straight pour.
I don't see why it couldn't be used in other systems, but then again I personally don't have any experience with other systems (yet).

It can be used in any loop...

I'd dilute it 3:1 with distilled water (300ml Koolance Fluid, 100ml distilled water) to prevent even the slightest chance of gunking up, however low it actually is.

I use it in my all copper loop straight with only a little distilled water for top-off. No gunk, no problems, been in there for almost a year.
