Koolance Exos EXT- A03 Heat Problems

Well got this installed and noticed my temps are crazy high on this thing. So i'm not sure if someone has this model or using a koolance that can help.

Using a Q6600 @ 3ghrz as it is too hot to go any higher at this point. Example i am typing this and it is reading 108° F, which seems to be hot for water. It is on the 2nd fan setting on the exos as 3rd is way too loud.

Just going from the cpu to the exos nothing else is in the loop. If i goto lets say 3.6Ghrz i get way over 130° F easy at idling. I'm using the "CPU-300-H06" cpu waterblock on it. Everything is in a p182 case with the side off.

I guess i'm just disappointed at the moment. As my peltier ran way better then this. But being the first time install perhaps i over looked something. But i just thought it would cool way better then a stock zalman and or a peltier cooler would.

I have no idea how the F temperature scale works, but from what I've heard, Koolance radiators tend to not perform very well, as they're made from aluminum.
 
108° F would be 42.2° C, while 130° F would be 54.4° C. Those temps do seem a bit on the really high side of things, (you said those were idle temps at 3ghz and 3.6ghz). It might just be that the radiator in the Exos isn't equipped to handle that much heat output (this is the 3 x 80mm exos right?) What are the idle and load temps with the CPU at stock speeds?
 
It is always a good idea to remount the block to make sure there is good contact.

Yes, been there and done that several times. Seems i may have to go back to the old faithful peltier as this is just plain sucky for water...................

YEAH RIGHT... maybe if you had a push-pull configuration with fan's so loud you'd wanna throw your computer out the window... god they dont half talk some crap.

You need to get a setup with a proper radiator at least 2 x 120mm, then you'll be getting nice temps with some quiet fans.
 
I have that same system running on my bench rig with a Athlon 64 dual core 6000+ Oc'd to 3.5Ghz @ 1.38v and my load temps are about what your idle temps are at.
I've found that those water blocks are very sensitive to the amount of thermal compound you use, a little goes a long way, and also the koolance systems seem to perform better using the Koolance coolant.
You might also want to pull the bottom plate of the Exos unit itself and vacum out the rad. Just routine mantinance!
I also have a EXOS 2 on my main box listed in my sig.

Do you actually have one? The unit is rather capable and just because it is older, doesn't mean it is outdated. With my Exos unit, I had 2 older Xeons on it (think Pentium 4) and it never went above 40C even with the lowest fan setting.
 
Wow, didn't mean to get a flame war started on this topic.

Update i did my cleaning as in removed everything from my p182 and air hosed it all down, clean the Exos out with air also, and got tired of having to remove the motherboard to check or change adaptors so i dremeled a square out in the back.

So after redoing everything and planning out my routing if cables and hose. I now have my Q6600 @ 3.6 running @ 33° C and the pump is on setting "1". I also did a fresh install of os and some other odds and ends and i never seen it get over 36°C while installing vista 64 bit.

I'm not sure if that proves anything to the ones that are knocking Koolance. But this was my ending results. And this is my first step into water, so i really cannot comment on good or bad......

Last question:
My hoses coming off the cpu block is laying across my northbridge heatsink. And it stays warm, so i was wondering do i need to move it away or do i have anything to worry about it laying against it?

I'm glad you took the time to do the maintance and that you posted the results.
If you can move the hoses off that NB heatsink then by all means do it, probably wouldn't hurt to leave it but why take the chance. :)

yes i have had both the exos 1 and 2..... they weren't shit, but theres far better gear available for the price and their heat dissipation wattages are very misleading.
 
Yes, i agree for the price if you bought one new. But i got this one used and for the price it would cost for a decent pump only. And just thought it would be nice to mess around with and see how well it works and get some basic knowledge on it. As i just didn't want to go out and shell out mad money and find out that wasn't what i liked.

It is nice just to hook two tubes, mount the brackets and run the power and you're done deal. Wished it had bigger tubing options. Seems like it is working pretty good though. I'm ust wondering if i put a gpu block in it would it just kill it though, perhaps it would be a bit much on it?
