I actually have the shockwave and flash plugin for konqueror ( ala: mozilla plugin that konq is using ). I think it's the way the ad is in the page.

All I know is I can view shockwave stuff elsewhere fine, but there is something funky about the ad here. *shrug*

Just have to thank you for posting the link to the ad banner problem. I complained to newegg and Kyle for quite a while about the banner having the wrong mime type, but new egg would not fix it. I guess they finally saw it was bugging people.

I always had opera set to "Determine action by mime type", but couldn't do that because of that banner. Now I can switch it back.

What is the problem exactly? Is it popping up a dialog on each page?

If so, could it be because the the page that is loaded in the iframe, which loads the banner, doesn't have body tags in the source?

it just has

<html>
<p>the embed</p>
</html>

Whether that's the problem or not, that needs to be fixed.

Edit: hmm, I just checked the swf file again. It's being served as application/octet-stream again instead of application/x-shockwave-flash. I wonder if their server keeps switching it or something.

Instead of going to newegg to fix the mime type, the problems can be solved by adding type="application/x-shockwave-flash" to any embed tag that loads the newegg banner. That goes for the embed tag that loads the banner on the main site (via the iframe page) too.

That should fix the problems.

Here's what the newegg banner always looks like in Opera when "Determine action by mime type" is set. That's because the server is sending the wrong mime type. Specifying the correct mime type for the embed tag will override that and solve the problem.

I'm sure konqueror is having similar problems.

Ok, the forums now work ok, ad and all, in Konqueror.

Thanks, whomever nailed that bug.
