Had an idea for a knex case, and decided to sacrifice an old gateway to the project. Not too bad so bad I don't think. Tell me what you think

Frame with cards, mobo, RAM, processor, and power supply installed. Getting the psu to perch over the processor like that without slipping was a bitch.

Here is a little mount that I fashioned for the on switch and LED lights. Cut my fingers a few times trying to get the thing out of the gateway case.

Hard drive enclosure I fashioned. Wasn't easy to get a no-slip hold on the hard drive, let alone a configuration that would fit properly.

This is still ongoing and open to any suggestions or comments you guys have. Tell me what you think.

knex always hurt my fingers after a while, but definately fun to play with.

I'm surprised it'll hold the wieght.

I'd be careful of melting the K'nex with those hard drive temps. Other than that, looks nice!

most impressive, somehow i think that isnt too good of an idea but hey its a good idea

Oh. OH. This should be interesting. I would have done it a different way though... This might be a tad weak for everything... I wouldn't worry to much about heat. It takes A LOT of heat to melt k'nex.

Crap... If I had an extra mobo lying around I would probably attempt a mod like this myself. I might just make a case for kickers though... I'll give you some [H]ard examples tonight dude for your case.

I experimented for a few seconds on ideas. The pictures you see here are mere examples. I am not gonna finish this because its not my mod.

Ok, nevermind. The photo's won't upload. Anywas, I should already give notice that I have a lot of k'nex at my disposal (4 rollercoaster sets, big ball factory, various miniature sets inbetween.) Our friend building the case has a weak fram as I can see already. I suggest for the mobo, hooking the 360 degree white connectors up with little green rods and then supergluing stand offs into the things. If you ask me, that would make a strong mobo frame. Also, are you making this like an HTPC? Cause I think a Midtower k'nex case would be even better =D.

If you could look under it, that's how the motherboard is sitting. I made a frame with white round connectors and white sticks under it, using blue ones as cross braces. I'm also probably going to redo the whole section around the cards, so I can more easily mounse the hard drive and optical drive.

Also, no superglue. This is going to be made entire of knex with no outside materials.

It would be sweet to do a full size case with a DFI SLI and water cooling. You could put an [H] logo on one side and an AMD arrow on the other side.

I built a much better (IMO) support for the mobo on mine, that I said in the old thread, but I havent done anything for about a week, as Im thinking of doing some ghetto >$60 watercooling to go with the knex case :D I posted in the community ghetto watercooling thread about what Im thinking of doing, I just really need to figure out what I want to do for a pump/reservoir.

Basically, I have a plate kinda thing using a ton of the white circle pieces conected in a standard rectangular shape that is ziptied to the mobo (old K7S5A w/ an XP 1600+). Then, I'm thinging of mounting the hd & cd drives under the mobo mounted on frames, with the heater core Im thinking of using filling up the rest of the space under the mobo, and the pump/reservoir to the side or of the mobo or on top of the unused pci slots.

Great job on yours!
