i need some new PSU for our office, they ran out of Corsair and would have to order them into the country, being Costa Rica, i cna order them myself, but it can be costly.

they have though available these PSU's called Kmex

http://www.k-mex.com/Webforms/ProductInfoPage.aspx?KindNo=0000000005&ProductNo=0000000055

i cant find much that says if they are good or bad, the purchasing guy brought one over to our office and they have some decent weight to them, they arent like the really cheap ones that dont weight anything, i know a rule of thumb can be that PSU can be judged on their weight sometimes.

Before I say yes to getting about 10 of these... can anyone chim in on them?

Looks like crap to me. Almost all of their products lack active PFC, which is usually a pretty good indication that they are bad or old designs. Either way, they aren't something you want to use in a corporate environment.

that was my train of thought, i was iffy about it, may just order a box of corsairs and be done with it.

[EDIT] Just saw it says it has active pfc apparently.

i asked that they bring one by my office, will open it up see how it looks inside.

most of the desktops we get they put the cheap no name brand PSU's in them even if i ask for Corsair ones, but the Corsair 420's they seem to have in random stock and charge almost $100 for em here, but then i explain that they wont take our the entire system if something goes bad.

Keep in mind active PFC is important in a corporate environment, as your utility company may be charging you by apparent power, rather than used power, which with non-PFC units will cost you half as much again or more. In addition when you have a dozen PCs with non-PFC PSUs on one line, you may trip a breaker, as again the breaker sees the apparent power, not the actual used power. So twenty PCs that draw a real total of 20A may draw an apparent 30A.

I've seen units looking like these that sell under the brand name Sweex here in my country. There was a review of a 650W unit that actually did its rated wattage, but the fan was noisy as heck.

Link to that review (The title is incorrectly translated tho, it really says "cheap noise")

But since the brand names aren't the same, the internals may be different. So take the review with a grain of salt.

Since the fan in that PSU is made by KMEX, I think it's probably the same unit. However, it still doesn't look that great to me. Ripple and voltage regulation were fine, but efficiency was poor, it lacks APFC, and the choice of capacitors is questionable. I would still avoid it.

Sorry all, been so bsy lately with a merge, things been rough. i love cleaning out a DC with 6 years of accounts..lol

Anyways, i tested this PSU with a AMD Quad over clocker, 4G of ram and 1 500G HD and a 8200 vid card and then rails seemed solid!!!

i was suprised, i did tell our purchasing department that IF they had to order these new, get corsair or antec earthwatts, but. if they can get them already in costa rica.... fopr aot less, buy em.

i have now become the purchasing departments official hardware teater!

There are many aspects of a PSU's performance that you aren't equipped to test, so checking the rails for stability (assuming you did it with a multimeter; if not, then your results are also meaningless) is not enough to be able to say whether or not a PSU is good.

If it really is the same or similar platform as the Sweex units they sell here in the Netherlands then I'd avoid them at all cost. Just looking at the pictures of the unit on the back of the packaging made me giggle out loud when I realized they showed a missing transient filter. Usually a sign of a really cheap PSU, and at least in this case being sold for the same price you'd pay for a good Corsair/Antec unit.
